Soundproof Walls? I have trouble sleeping with noise and my brothers room is right next door to mine and he insists on sleeping with his tv on. I was wondering how much it would be to soundproof a wall and how I would go about doing it? If anyone else has any ideas on how to make it so that I can't hear his television I'd like to hear them. (I've already tried ear plugs and after sleeping with them in for a few nights my ears started to hurt)
How well do soundproof walls work? If I was to play guitar really loud or have a band come in and play with soundproof walls, how well would it block the sound, would you be able to hear it outside just barely?. or would it shake the walls outside?

How can I temporarily soundproof my walls for a party? I'm having a 21st birthday party where my friend will be DJing some nasty dubstep. As that has a huge amount of bass and noise, what can I do to temporarily soundproof the walls of my house so that nearby neighbors will not be greatly disturbed by the noise? Thanks :) PS. Yes they have been informed, Yes I live in a single family home, and you should not be able to hear the music from 25 feet away.
How do I soundproof my apartment without messing up the walls? I would like to keep the washingmachine/dishwasher/ and the bass sounds from music that are coming from my neighbors out of my apartment. They run water at 4-8 a.m. and it sounds like a waterfall and it wakes me up. Also traffic noise is bad. The walls are very thin. I am renting and cannot tear up the walls. Has anyone made a soundbarrier room just for sleeping? It would have to have ventilation. I don't need a whisperroom with acoustics-just something to keep the sound out. I would like to know how to soundproof a walk-in-closet for sleeping if anyone knows how to do that without tearing up the walls. I have heard of Quietrock drywall, but don't know if that would work for something I'll have to remove when I can get outta here. I tried earplugs but those hurt my ears. I would like to thank all of you for your advice. I am trying ear plugs again. Thanks to the link at gss, I found out there are some smaller sized ear plugs which motivated me to do more shopping. I found some made by Silencio that have a low-pressure design, cut in a hexagon shape. I am still considering alternatives to ear plugs though because I still cannot wear them very long. Thank you all for your great ideas. Soundblocking involves so many levels, and I cannot choose the best answer yet as I have not been shopping for materials. I have tried lining the closet with comforters, but it has not worked.

Its for a front wall of a college campus wall at on campus house so party noise wont be as loud when standing outside. There are "townhouses" next to eachother connected. All i need to do is soundproof the front wall. Theres a pretty big window. The walls are sheetrock with beams and cinderblocks. any suggestions?
How do you soundproof a wall without building a new one? A couple people and I just moved into an older house and the walls are paper thin. You can hear the slightest conversation down to the typing of the keyboard from the other room. This creates a problem when I'm trying to sleep and the roomate next to me argues with her boyfriend late at night... I work 2 jobs and my sleep is precious... however, we cannot tear down walls to soundproof them.. any ideas would be greatly appreciated
how to soundproof a wall without tearing apart anything? my brother keeps telling me to turn down the volume when im only about 20%. hes in the room across mine and the walls are useless at keeping sound in. what would i do to make my room soundproof or keep sound inside my room without breaking anything in my walls.
How can I soundproof 1 wall? I know that sounds rediculous, but ONE wall of my baby girl's room is back to back with the kitchen. Whenever someone in the kitchen pulls open a drawer, opens and closes a cabinet, or grabs dishes in/out of the cabinet, the sound is SO loud and amplified in the babys room, that it wakes her up all the time. (Seriously, when someone opens a kitchen drawer, it sounds like someone is skateboarding across the wall!) So I can't use my kitchen when she is asleep. I'd really like to figure out how to soundproof that one wall, so that when someone is working in the kitchen, it doesn't carry through into her room. BTW, I'd like to see if there is anything I can put BETWEEN the walls (like drop down from up in the attic), as I obviosly can't tear out my kitchen cabinets to put material behind them.....and I don't want to mount material on my baby's wall, because the nursery is painted and decorated and finished. There is not an option of another room to move the baby to.
Are plasterboard walls soundproof? Hi there, This may seem like a daft question, but I will shortly be moving into a new terraced house with my boisterous 2 year old twins. I'm a bit concerned as the walls appear to be plasterboard and i'm worried the neighbours will hear every bit of noise we make. Since this is a rented house I cannot do any kind of renovation or building work. Just how effective is plasterboard in keeping out noise and disturbance? Many thanks indeed.
What is the best way to soundproof a room? We have a room in our house that shares a wall with a bathroom. Whenever someone uses the bathroom, it's actually hard to talk in the other room because the running water is so loud between the rooms. How can we make this room (or at least this wall) soundproof? We are willing to do minor construction on the walls.
How do I soundproof a wall without spending too much money? Just moved into a new rented house. Therefore I cannot tear up the walls or do anything drastic. I share a wall with the living room and do not want to hear the TV coming through that common wall. What can I do to muffle/reduce/eliminate that noise? Where would i put the egg foam stuff? on the living room side of the wall, or on my room side?
What's the best way to temporarily soundproof a party wall in an apartment? My friends and I just moved into a nice apartment, and we like to have people over for parties. The trouble is, the walls are thin as can be, and noise travels through them easily. We asked about doing some serious soundproofing with green glue and such to the shared walls, but we cannot make an permanent alterations to the unit under the terms of our lease. So short of taping comforters to the walls, what can we do?
How can I soundproof a wall? My nephew has moved in with us. He loves to listen to music, Now he has one of those ipod radios and is not really loud but the walls are thin and the lame neighbor keeps complaining. I just want to sound proof one wall in the room where he is staying at. That is the one towards the next apartment. Now we can't make any big changes because it is an apartment and I would not want to spend too much money because he will only be here for about 3 months. Can anyone help me with this?

How soundproof is a six inch concrete enclosed wall? I live in an apartment and I have a home theatre setup with 5.1 speakers. They're pretty big speakers and I would like to know how soundproof my apartment is? The concrete walls are approximately 6-8 inches thick and they fully enclose the apartment. When you knock on the walls, they do not make any reverberations, in fact it feels solid and your knuckles hurt if you knock hard enough. How sound proof is my apartment? How loud should I be able to play my movies/music?
can you use carpet to soundproof a home recording studio? I am building a recording studio in my basement. I was interested in buying the foam padding to soundproof it, but someone told me that carpet on the walls to soundproof the recording booth works just as good. I would rather go this route because the foam padding is expensive and I need alot, but I just had my basement carpeted and I have extra carpet that would work perfectly and save me some money.
What is an easy way to soundproof a wall between 2 bedrooms? My kids bedrooms share a wall, and it's thin. So the crying baby wakes up her sibling. Here are the restrictions: - I cannot use egg crates - I cannot tear down the wall - There is no attic access to that wall - I can live with a few holes in the drywall, then patched I thought I read before somewhere that there is a material/foam that you can use to fill between the studs. The foam is like silly strings, it will expand after dispensed, and fill the stud gaps. Is there a correct name for this? Is it easy to do? Any suggestions? Note these are baby/toddler rooms, so nothing can be hanging on the wall where the kids can reach.
How to build a soundproof outdoor wall? I want to build a wall outdoors to provide as much noise reduction as possible between our house and the house next door. Is it possible to build such a fence or structure without incredibly large expense? What materials would be required? What alternatives are there?
How to soundproof a wall without construction in an apartment? I'm looking for an HGTV-type solution, something that's stylish but also functions as noise-reduction [to bass from a television next door, specifically]. My bedroom is apparently directly near my neighbor's TV room, and I can hear their television quite clearly. It's just a mild annoyance to me, [I like quiet] but white noise and sound machines don't seem to be doing the trick. Help please?
how can I soundproof my bedroom? I cant tear down my walls. I just want to know how I can not wake up my parents down the hall while gaming at night. I already use headphones its just me talking that wakes them up. So if you know of any cheap materials that I can just hang up on my walls to soundproof it that would be great.
Can anyone tell me how to soundproof a wall? I live in a Victorian Terrace and am having problems with music and television noise from next door which has been converted into flats. Ideally I need a solution I can do myself and which is cheap!
Will insulating my walls help reduce outside noise.? My neighbor likes playing his music outside a lot at loud volumes and it's not so much the music itself but rather the bass I can't stand. so anyways,we are remodeling my home and wanted to know if insulating my walls and getting soundproof windows will help with this situation.
What is the cheapest way to soundproof a room? I am looking to soundproof a room to help reduce the noise my dogs make when they bark. I have an upstairs neighbor who complains about the noise sometimes. What products can I use to soundproof the room? I've heard acoustic foam, egg cartons, and egg crates as suggestions. Do I need to soundproof just the ceiling or the walls as well? If someone can help me out that would be great!
How do I soundproof my bedroom wall? We live in an apartment and our neighbors are very loud. The apartments are connected by our bedroom wall. Every night, I can't sleep because they are laughing and shouting. I wear ear plugs, the fan is running, and the heater is on....but it isn't enough. What can I do to that wall to make the sound not go through as much? (Noise complaints have not worked, obviously).
How can I soundproof my apartment wall? Recently I had a couple of noisy neighbors move in. They are not always loud, but every day for a few hours they play the rap quite loud, and it is VERY annoying. Mosty of the sound is coming through one wall. Is there an economical solution I can use to at least block some of the sound?
I currently live abroad in an apt with stairs that wrap around it & are built into the wall!! Soundproof ideas Moving could be an option but I am in a GREAT location and prefer to work it out, if possible. There is no luxury in terms of insulation like we have back home in North America. The stairs are not built in an adjoining wall - they are built directly into my wall. People stomp up & down them all the time & the noise is deafening. I have tried talking to the neighbours. Any ideas to guard against the noise? Does anyone know of anything I could purchase - (even if I have to ship it from home) - to drown out the sounds? The main wall is at the back of a large closet. I could try putting something in there. I want to live peacefully.
I want to soundproof a mutual wall (between my neighbour and me) in my town home ? I'd like to find out what would be the best way to go about this. I've had one contractor recommend spraying in 1/2 pound polyurethane foam (i.e this requires tearing down the existing drywall, spraying in the foam and putting up new drywall). I've had another suggestion of 'green glue' which is some sort of sound dampening material you place between two layers of drywall.
How to soundproof an apartment for a party? Hi! I have this party coming up in a day and i have a friend's apartment as the venue. The issue with the whole plan is that his grandparents live upstairs and it isn't cool if they get to know that people downstairs are listening to loud music. I've read a lot of soundproofing techniques online but most of them involve either recreating your wall or buying soundproofing equipment. I don't have the money nor the time for the latter and need some simple remedies to the problem. I was thinking of using thermacol to may be block the gaps between the doors and the floor. Any suggestions are welcome. P.S. The speakers are right next to the apartments door. (Very Urgent, the party is tomorrow!)
How do i remove soundproofing foam and glue from my walls? My cousin had sound proofing foam glued to his walls to drown out the sound of his drumkit, however I now need to remove it all. So far I've pulled off the squares of foam (along with chunks of the plaster!) however there's still quite a lot of foam that's stuck fast, as well as the glue. I can only assume it's some kind of no nails/superglue type stuff. Any suggestions on how I can remove the residue so I can paint over it would be great. Thanks
I need to soundproof a room in my home? I need to soundproof an already constructed wall in my home, but I rent so I need to do as little damage as possible to the wall in question. The local home improvement shop has SoundBoard, but i can not find how to install. Any advice?
