Soundproof Walls

How can I soundproof my room?

I'm going to be moving into a new house in about a year and need to know how to sound proof a room. I have many loud instruments including drums, guitars, keybord/piano, workstation......like a small recording studio. I need to sound proof my room so the sound doesn't leave the room. Since I'm starting from scratch, what is the best way to soundproof my room. I don't want it to be too expensive.

  1. foam........ or a bunch of egg cartonssss all over the place
  2. owens corning sell sound proffing insulation. you can add that , you can add a wall and leave a 1 to 2" air space. you can buy acustic blocks that fit together good stuff put up 2 layers if one is not enough seal around every thing the best you can good luck
  3. and you don't want it to be too expensive, the sound will leak out then. the best way is to build a second wall spaced around 1 inch from the original and pack the thing with foam board insulation, and put 1 inch of foam board in between the new wall and the old making sure to glue the edges. the cheaper way, (but still costly) is to simply cover every wall surface and the ceiling with 1'' foam board and put a adhesive in the joints then if you have any cash left, hang carping on the foam.
  4. Hi. Take a look at the Auralex site. ( http://www.auralex.com ). They have everything you need to soundproof a room. You can even contact them for recommendations. Once you've found a package that works, have them direct you to an authorized dealer. Hope this helps!
  5. Use a hard foamlike soundproofing inside the walls but leave the air space on the noise side as it will vibrate back not towards the outer wall.as well use 5/8 ths[firecode] gyprock not the cheaper stuff. And make sure you don't have a hollow door.
