What is the cheapest way to effectively soundproof a room?
I want to make this room in my garage soundproof so I can record mixes on my turntables (loudly). Do I really have to use egg cartons?

- Get yourself committed to an insane asylum and the soundproofing will be free of charge.
- sheets of foam rubber ?
- No!!! Contrary to popular belief egg boxes DO NOT WORK!!!
- egg cartons work but alternates would be styrofoam, pillows, flatten cardboard boxes. pick one
- have everyone else wear ear plugs
- News Papper Works Krinkel It up in balls and pack it tight behind plywood
- Sheets of Foam. remember that a sound proof room has a 12' wall. and that most house walls are 4'.
- Foam or cork. I've heard that cork on the walls will help immensely.
- Yes you do. Soundproofing materials are very expensive. The cones in the eggcrates break up the soundwaves, therefore reducing feedback and echo. ...and don't record loudly. use only enough volume to max your meters. The loudly comes later in the mixdown.
- not egg cartons...eggcrate foam, available at local home depots and stores like that. it looks just like soundproofing foam and work the same! it just isnt a pretty color! if you arent padding the enitre room make sure the pads arent directly across from each other nor should they be level with each other.
