Soundproof Walls

What would make the acoustics of a medieval great hall better?

i.e. a rectangular room with windows high along one side and a dais at one end where a speaker who'd want to be heard by the people on the floor would stand. Thanks!

  1. hanging cloth like tapestries. Pretty much anything that will absorb sound so that there isn't an echo.
