Soundproof Walls

What's the cheapest way to soundproof a dry wall?

  1. Insulate the wall. There are many ways to soundproof a wall, however most of these methods happen before the wall is built. The cheapest way might give you some protection. Poke a hole in the top of the wall and pour in blow in insulation. This really is a crappy method and it is dangerous, but it's cheap.
  2. well since you do not want to remove the dry wall and insulate behind it. try putting up foam sheets and cover then. or try trapistries on top of insulation balts or quilt batts but a full wall book shelf and fill it with books.
  3. Go to garage sales or flea markets and buy really cheap but thick rugs. Attach to wall.
  4. You need to create isolation between the two sides of the wall. If you are building a new wall, it is simple to use 2x6 top and bottom plates and then stagger regular 2x4's 12" on center.. One 2x4 to the front face of the 2x6, the next 2x4 to the rear.. When you attach the drywall, each side will be 24" OC.. Fill the wall with insulation.
  5. Insulate the wall. A shop vac can be used to blow cellulose into the wall cavities. It doesn't have to be high density, but it may settle after a few years if it isn't high density blown in.
  6. cheapest is use egg crates, attach to wall, works great but does not look pretty
  7. Herr bags got it right.
